OK more specifically, why was Cherise Stander not selected to go to the last Olympics? She qualified and was the form rider at the time. Why did Maroesjka Matthee and other track cyclists have to try and make their own way to the world track champs earlier this year? What happened with that diabolical tour of SA 2 or so years ago? Where is the cycling academy that should have been established years ago (or at least taken over by CSA when Neotel dropped doper Hoffman)?

I can go on and on, but this is why CSA will not see any of my cash.

I cannot comment on Cherise and Olympics and you may find CSA did their best anyway but teh SA Olympics decided they were not taking cyclist! They dont have the money for all the rest - it's just that simple. Even I understand that each year (for the past 3 years) I need to be self funded to go to World track champs which I am fortunate to be able to afford!

What are you basing their uselesness on - past circumstances of swimming pools and the like or current situation. I have seen a drastic shift towards CSA trying to offer more for the rider. Years ago you paid R120 and got nothing...now you pay R120 and get medical cover, benefits in the form of car hire etc ..I see that as a positive.

Sure they have heaps of room for improvement and lots of skeletons, but I see change and thats a positive for me. And I am not even going to begin to list all the things that KZN cycling is doing for the betterment and growth of the sport down here in KZN

All positive moves, but not nearly enough. The acid test will be when we send the next batch of young hopefuls to the Olympics. Lets see how many administrators vs athletes will be going to Rio next year.

agreed - the political mess that was previous selections is the big change I want to see addressed

If they manage to turn it all around it would be quite an anomaly. Usually a radical turn-around is preceded by a huge shake-up in on an Executive level. Very few successful turn-arounds take place with the same people at the helm.

It always amuse me how outspoken PPA members get whenever there is an Positive CSA announcement. Reminds me of the EFF.

Funny how pro CSA peeps always makes it about CSA vs PPA. Reminds me of the ANC blaming Apartheid for everything. PS: I can arrange discount on my car rental and I can arrange my own medical cover, organizing a well attended cycling race / funride / tour odf SA / SA championship is an entirely different matter.

First of all, I am not po or against CSA or PPA. I however read most of the articles posted on the Hub, and whenever anything CSA are published its most of the time PPA member reacting with the most negative remarks. Instead of joining the two organizations together to create a better cycle environment for all of us, this biggering will continue with no resolution. But you are right on your ANC statement, and for you taking care of your own needs, good on you.

How do you justify CSA's attempted highjacking of PPA reserves that the PPA built up with hard work, good corporate governance and good business decisions? Its like trying to justify E-tolling when the fuel levy was imposed to cover what e-tolling now need to cover.

CSA took whatever they had and destroyed it and then tried to heist PPA funds. If they succeeded PPA would have been broke, and so would CSA as they have not been capable of managing funds historically. I am all for the seemingly positive strides CSA has made in the last 12 months, but will remain skeptical until they start performing adequately on their mandate. Like I said earlier, lets see how many cyclists go to Rio vs how many CSA administrators.

PPA good corporate governance?

They have just appointed a member of the EXCO to be the CEO with out resinging from the EXCO before applying for the job!!! To top it all it was a secret ballot off the remaining committee member off which about 6 are part of his MTB club, who voted on the final 3 candidates without even seeing the CV of these candidates! I don’t even know if this new CEO qualified to get past round one of the interviews i.e. 3 year of tertiary education was in  the ad for the job! Two PPA - EXCO member I have spoken too could not confirm this for me.

PPA has hit rock bottom on  corporate governance!! All this was only brought to my attention last Friday by means of a letter been put by hand in my letter box and since speaking to some PPA committee members who are in in “shock” as to how PPA has been “taken over” by a club!

I am not say new CEO is or is not the correct man for the job - I don’t even know him and did not know his name until after receiving the letter in the post - but corporate governance was thrown out the window!

If what you say is remotely true I suggest that you take it up with the PPA at their next AGM. All this cloak and dagger and "he-said-she-said" stuff does not interest me and by trying to discredit the PPA process I am not going to like the CSA systematic mismanagement of funds any more. I will send you my email address as requested per private message on the condition that I can send the letter you received onto the PPA for comment.

dont get confused between CSA and SASCOC. CSA may submit a list of riders for the Olympics but I think you will find that it is SASCOC who choose who eventually goes to the Olympics and who doesn't.

Sure, but CSA can object if riders deserving of a place in the squad are omitted. They also make the decision on costs covered for athletes going to worlds etc. I'd rather see athletes getting financial assistance to attend these events than see administrators flying business class and staying in 5 star accommodation when they travel.

This is a highly political environment so we should probably leave it at that.

Agree 100% on the below.

Agree 100% on how CSA money is spent.
