Hello,

Looking for bike shop in PE, jbay, st francis that can supply me with TT aerobar extensions and do a bike fitment for the TT position on a Trek Madone road bike. Any advice?

I would always recommend Action Cycles in Heugh rd PE, just because of the fact that they WANT to help you (speak to Garth). Then again, the folks at CycloPro in William Moffet are are great bunch of friendly people.

I'm going to be straight up here, but I'm not to keen on the other shops, if there's one thing I hate it's when I go to place ready to spend money and I'm asked WHY I want to do/add/upgrade a particular thing.

I heard there's a lady at Wayne Pfeiffer cycles that you pay R500-R600 and she does a pro setup for you (allegedly she did/does the MTN-Qubeka team setup, but please don't take my word for it)...Wayne is a nice guy though and the younger guys there are extremely knowledgeable.

I'd throw my money to either Action Cycles or Cyclopro for what you are looking for, but.....

Then there's the shop in Uitenhage in Graaff-Reinet rd....I hated going to this shop (I wont go into why), but was forced to as it's the only lbs. Until they did my mountain bike setup for me, man I was absolutely shocked at how well it was done. My bike sommer felt faster and I felt like I was sitting "in" it, not "on" it if you know what I mean....be ready to buy a Pyga when you go there.

Hope this'll help. I'm not to sure about the other areas, maybe there's a TT guru elsewhere.

I don't know if any of the shops have experience with TT bike fits but I have had good service and fair prices from all the shops mentioned above.

You need to decide for yourself do you wan't to:

a) Emulate a TT bike on your Madone. This would mean an offset seatpost to move your saddle forward and open your hips. You will get more aero in this position but you will need to train like this to adapt.

b) Keep you current seating position and get tri bars that will allow you to lie on your elbows in this position. Not as aero but still a huge improvement and easy to adapt.

I just do the odd 70.3 so I went for option B as I can change my setup in 3 minutes. For this you need tri bars where the elbow pads can adjust forward and backwards as you will need to position them behind the handlebars as supposed to inline with the handlebars for option A.

There is a physio in PE that does great bike fits - bear with me and I will get the name and number for you.

And as a reference point - I bought my Spez from Garth at Action cycles for a reason - even though it had to get to Jhb to be used...

Edit - the Physio's name is Michelle - and works on action cycles kit - speak to Garth to organise it - I thought she was independant, but it appears not.

Probably the same dame I heard about...heard some good things about what she does.

She did my brothers fitting - and he was more impressed with her than with cycle fit - who are very good - and did his first fitting.

Flip, thanks guys for the feedback. Will definitely check with Action Cycles. The one in Cape Town is predominately MTB but hopefully the PE one can help me out with a TT set up and maybe aero bar extensions. Really appreciate the advice!
