rotorbug Posted June 30, 2015 Share Wonder if anyone can offer advice. I have been working on a 3 month work contract in the UK and I am returning with my Specialised Camber Expert Evo as sporting goods on the plane. I can't insure it from this side as I have only been in the Uk for 3 months and UK travel insurance companies require at least 6 months residency. South African cycle insurance companies in SA won't insure it until a local bike dealer has seen and valued the bike for the insurance company. Jacques@ACT Posted June 30, 2015 Share Can you get someone to include it as a specified item on content insurancr on the house insurance policy? Make sure the cover includes using it anywhere in the world.Outsurance (as an example) have this. This is from my understanding speaking to them a while ago. I dont have this myself, but worth a try if someone can add this to theirs.
milky4130 Posted June 30, 2015 Share Did you take travel insurance cover before you left SA, I'm guessing yes cause that's a prerequisite for the visa, call them & tell them you want to upgrade to include Sports events/equipment, not sure if it will fly but worth a try. Also can't remember if it will only cover "sport injury" or include equipment as well.Leaving SA I took the sports option ontop of my travel insurance to participate in a event in Europe. HBO Posted July 3, 2015 Share If you do have an active policy currently for your House hold goods, the best will be to add the bike to this policy under the All Risk section. It will be important to have proof of the bike. The best will obviously be an invoice, even if it is in pounds. I doubt you will experience any diffculty with this. If don't have an existing policy, it might be difficult. I doubt if you will be able to insure the bike on its own. The only guys that will do that is Cyclesure,(that I know off) but if they first need to have it locally inspected/ valued you are screwed. Perhaps you can send me a pm if you need more assistance. I am an independent broker.
