Hazendal Family MTB Trail

The Hazendal Family MTB Trail (sponsored by Sabre Paints) will be opened the weekend of 3 October, weather permitting (final opening details to be confirmed next week).

The route is entirely on the Hazendal farm.  It is 5 km long, of which at least 4 km is easy single track.  There are four route options varying from 1,2 km to 5 km, ideal for children and beginners to learn and hone their MTB skills.

It is important to note that the route is aimed at children, beginner riders and experienced riders who want to have a ride at a moderate pace or want to ride with their families.  Although almost completely flat, it is not designed  to be ridden at high speed.  If you are a race snake on a 29'er, please go and ride the Bottelary Hills MTB trails, Tygerberg Trails or Jonkershoek.

Day permits cost R30 per person.  Annual permits cost R300 per person or R1000 per family (maximum 5 members). Annual permits bought now will be valid until the end of 2016.  Both types of permits  can be bought at the Hazendal coffee shop from 8 am in summer and 9 am in winter.  Day and annual permits are sold as a bike board that must be displayed on the bike's handlebars.  Day permits must be bought in advance if you want to ride outside the hours that the coffee shop is open. Please note that children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

To avoid confusion  - the Hazendal Famliy MTB Trail is an independent trail and  NOT part of the Bottelary Hills MTB trails, although you can buy permits for the Bottelary Hills MTB trails at Hazendal and start your ride there.

Just an update on the opening of the route.

The route will be officially opened on Sunday 4 October. Permits will be sold from 8 am.  The first 50 riders who buy a day (or annual)  permit will receive a free boerie-rol and powerade. (There will also be a special surprise for kiddies).

The route signage will be up by Saturday the 3rd of October - riders are welcome to ride on Saturday as well, but will not receive any "freebies" when buying a permit.

Permits  can be bought at the Hazendal coffee shop from 8 am. Day permits must be bought in advance if you want to ride outside the hours that the coffee shop is open. Please note that children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Is it good. Photo's?

The trail is purpose built for beginners, kids or anyone who wants an easy but atmospheric ride through woodlands and fields mostly on single track. The coffee shop sells permits and caters for kids and adults alike, open from 08.00 - 18.00.

The new "summer loop" is open - 2 km long and a bit rougher than the existing route options.  Just follow the red route and you will find the signage for the "summer loop" about 3 km into your ride.  (it is named the "summer loop" as it will likely be too wet to ride in winter).
