Things to look at...

Find a cheap second hand bike with ok components...

source a full carbon frame online...

Shop around for a good wheel set...

As the components wear upgrade to better...

Try seats until you find the right one...then just move it to the new frame...

You have come to a complete different answer than your original question. Your grievance was that bike shops won't let you test ride a bike and now you are going to buy a frame online, with zero test riding at all on it, just buying it because its carbon?

If you are looking for a great road bike to start with I would look at a second hand giant tcr, with all the new propels I am sure you can pick one up for a song. They normally come with Ultegra which would be perfect.

Wheels, depending on the type of riding, you would either spend your money on deep sections carbon ones or lightweight Alu rims.

I am thinking out loud...thanks to the responses...it helps me make a decision...R20...30...40 - 150 000 is a lot of money to spend on a item that you are not quite sure is the right thing.

IF i were a bike shop selling bicycles...either mtb or road bikes...i would find out were the popular hang outs are and have demo days...promote the products and allow people to take the bikes for proper test rides...ie a road bike...in durban i would setup a stand at bike and bean...let people do the circuit around kings park...or if it were mtb...i would have a spot at giba...like KT cycles...but use my bussiness sense and promote my products...have a the best mechanic around on weekends when it is really busy...have bicycles fitted with a tracking device for demos or for hire...make sure i have spares to fix bikes...etc etc.

Now there is a smart man...a shop at giba...you get to test ride the bike...before you buy they have the expertise to backup their products.

I am sure they will have a wash and lube service...have breakfast and collect your bike...this is a win win situation.

looking forward to this shop opening...might just sell my anthem in the pic 2015 model large only 200 km on the clock and make a wise investment.
