Who is responsible for the St Ives trails now that BigWheel Cycles have gone?

Chatted to Ashley at St Ives about it yesterday

St Ives will be keeping some of the more family orientated trails open and at a later stage looking at joining into Howick Trails to make longer loops for the more advanced rider

They also looking at having Nick (NES Trails) do some revamping and basic maintenance

This is all still in the planning stage so best would be to check with St Ives what is open/cleared before heading out there to ride.

Yup... not long at all.

Pretty sure Nick has it under control though. Him and his team will sort out the courses for the Provincial

Hi Dean

I had a meeting with Ashley at St Ives on Wednesday in lead up to the Enduro and Downhill.

St Ives will keep the trails in St Ives property clear.

Trails outside of St Ives in Sappi property will either be taken over by Howick or St Ives themselves.

In the interim - Nick will be clearing the XCO trails (not all the trails as i understand) for the XCO provincial there, whilst myself and a couple of the Enduro guys will be working with Ashley to clear some of the trails (as well as a new one) within St Ives itself for the event in Feb.

Cheers

Nige is heading there this tomorrow to scout for some new trails, check the condition of existing trail and chat to the St Ives guys about work needed, clearing etc for the enduro & DH to be held on 20 & 21 Feb.

WRT the Big Wheel Trail (Lion's River) network in the Sappi plantations outside of the St Ives property, those are currently not being maintained due to Big Wheels closing down. As Griffin has mentioned there are plans in place to get a trail custodian signed up and maintaining the trails ASAP.

The long term goal would be to try and get the Howick trails to link with the Lion's River network, get proper loops marked up and get proper signage sorted.

For the Enduro - there are 4 planned stages - 3 short - one long.

With varying technicality and obstacles.

All trails will be totally rideable, although there are some rocks and hairpins to negotiate.

One brand new trail that I will be laying out tomorrow so that Ash's guys can begin to cut this week.

Should be a good one ...

Its going to be very festive I am sure ....

Also looking at a fun dual slalom event after the Enduro - but keep an eye out for the KZNMTB pre-race flyer that i will put together over the weekend.
