Interesting and valid point this.

 

Somehow I never thought about that "after" part. I like using an orange oil based degreaser because it is bio-friendly and I also felt more comfortable washing that down the stormwater drain than something like paraffin or diesel.

 

Still a bit better than parafin or diesel , but a problem none the less. But we don't have many options in terms off disposal.

I've heard that dishwashing liquid contains salt which isn't good for paint and metalwork.

A lot of detergents contain sodium. It's not a problem. And again, you can use a heavily diluted mixture on your bike as it doesn't need a lot of surfactant. Dish wash is perfectly safe for your bike.
