Its very hot and humid and hilly and they drive like lunatics there. I thought about it when I was there and decided that I was safer not riding.

Hire a motorbike - they are a great way to cruise around.

You can Hire a Harley or a R1 (You can hire superbike and ride around with no helmet lol)

I have done MTBiking on numerous occasions in Thailand with my own bike and rental. Getting your own bike to Thailand is now prohibitively expensive and during my last trip (May - June 2015) I rented two entry level bikes for my wife and I, in Chiang Mai. The forests of Doi Suthep National park are awesome and there are a number of serious downhill tracks, downhill excursions are available with perfectly reasonable bikes to hire. Phuket is also great with the elephant trails presenting some awesome off road riding just watch the landmines! As for the heat and humidity, water management becomes critical and you will use more than  1 liter per hour of riding. I also cycled the length of Phi Phi but this is a bitty ride but tough climbing.

My advice do it.
