E-Bikes

E-bikes or electronic bikes became very popular in summer and see them all over the place now.Even saw a few with elderly riders at a few races.

I had a few issues with beginner riders up on the harder parts of the trails that they normally wouldn't be able to ride up to if they had to pedal.

I helped out at a enduro this morning and there were a few guys riding on them......TREK and Lapierre seem to most popular.I asked a few of the the marshals about them being legal and most weren't even sure what e-bikes are.

The race organiser said he had no issue as they don't help them on the downhills.

What are your feelings of these??

Makes less impact on the environment than taking a 2x4 plaas bakkie shuttle to the good stuff, I'd get my wife one so she doesn't feel like we are all waiting for her all the time. She will probably only do jeep track as she doesn't enjoy technical stuff. It also makes sense for commuters who want to stay relatively fresh going to work (say no showers at work) and want to get some training on their way home. Just don't hide the damn thing and pitch up at a race competing against riders without mechanical assistance.

I agree with the shutting but just wonder how many of these will be used at mass start races.

My wife was keen on one but said it felt funny when she rode one[emoji3]

I think they're a great way for more people to get access to the sport and just get out there. But I don't think they should be allowed in a "competitive" event. Perhaps an e-bike category would work best. I would be kinda pissed being on a stage race and having someone whizz past on an e-bike without hassle. What happens to seedlings and the safety factor in mass rider situations?
