Rebuilding an old bike

Hi all,

I have a 15 year old Trek 800 Trail that I have decided to rebuild.

Still in good condition, so I just started by replacing the saddle, with handlebars next in line, and should be done by tomorrow evening.

Going on, what do I do with gears, 26" wheels and all the other bits and pieces to get this old timer a bit more of a modern look and ride?

Many thanks!

OK, lets try again :w00t:

This bike still has the 7X gears. Thinking about going for 2x10, and see there is some for sale on the Hub with the cassettes.

Question now is will the cassette fit on the old 7x space, and then I suppose I would need to change the shifters as well? Already talking to someone about the 2x10 crankset, so that seems to be sorted for now at least.

Any guidance will be much appreciated!

The 7sp freehub cannot accommodate the 10sp cassette, you will need at least an 8speed cassette as there was a big change from 7 to 8 speed, from then on the 8/9 and 10 cassettes shared the same freehub pretty much...

Yes you will need to change the shifters, rear derailleur and front derailleur as well....
