  1. Trek has also pulled out, so I suppose maybe a bit of a watered down Epic this year?
  2. My previous Trek I had for 19 years, now have a Spez dual sus for 6 months
  3. What he said...... coming from a Trek tried to get a newer one from them, but their sales people was not interested in even showing me something in the shop, never mind giving me chance for a test ride. Both Spez dealers I visited was absolutely awesome, and I bought the EVO, even though I still think the Trek is a nicer looking bike No regrets so far, and no after sales service issues either. I may be wrong, but in my world the Brand is represented by the shop, so if the shop gives sub standard service, the Brand suffers, and you cannot separate the two from each other.
  4. Hi, did mine at Specialized Tygerberg, they have a chap that comes in to do it, and he was good and knows his stuff. Old age made me forget his name now, sorry....
  5. Going there for 5 days in December, now looking forward ti it even more
  6. Dealer service or the lack thereof will not make a bike better or worse either way. I think the point is if a dealer is unable / unwilling / incapable of even selling you a new or used bike, what is the chance of getting any, never mind good, after sales service? the idea is to enjoy the bike, not hassle and fight regarding after sales service that can and will take the enjoyment out of the experience.... Just saying.....
  7. Always been a Trek fan, and rode one of their old hardtails for 19 year. When time came for upgrade, I got better service from the Spez dealers, the Trek guys was not very concerned or serious about trying to sell me a bike, so that did it for me. And I did go to 2 Spez dealers just to confirm I did not just catch the Stellies Boys on a good day first time around......
  8. What these guys did is no different from what I see my fellow cyclist do every single day, skipping red robots, riding in a bundle on a busy road etc. etc. Always the minority that make everyone look bad unfortunately......
  9. Epic EVO Comp did it for me, 120mm up front and a dropper post
  10. Newer spec Spez bikes come with Ground Control front and fast track rear, working fine for me for now at least...
  11. Import duties are supposed to help and or protect the local industry, but whether that is working is another story. Couple of years ago some clever people imported bikes in "CKD" form, and once landed assembled it and sold it. By doing it that way they saved on import duty, but then Customs got wise, and in cases where these parts were imported in the same consignment, they classified it as complete bikes as the essential character of the final product was there. Not sure if they still do it, but if I look at some of the charges importers and exporters pay for the service I am not surprised at the high price of the end product....
  12. Silly question maybe, but plse explain to me how this would help? Not very technically gifted, but I have to upgrade my EVO's brakes as well, and would like to know how this works in layman's terms
  13. I got the Epic EVO, 120mm front travel and a dropper post, and more than happy with it so far.
  14. I used the FR30 for a long time for running only, and it worked just fine. Then I saw a Vivoactive HR (older model) brand new on special at Totalsports for R1800 marked down from R4999 and bought it. Wow what a watch, maybe older but way more feature than watches double that price
  15. Epic Comp EVO maybe? Dropper post and 120 fork, very nice for be also being a ballie at 99kg
  16. https://er24.info/durbanville-hills-mountain-biker-rescued-from-trail-in-a-serious-condition/ All I could find so far...
  17. I believe a rider had to be evacuated from a trail in Durbanville late yesterday afternoon after a jump went wrong and he went off the side or the trail Anyone knows if the rider is OK by any chance?
  18. Just got a brand new Epic EVO Comp after 19 years on an old Trek hardtail. The new bike is awesome, but then after 19 years I suppose anything will be. Reason for choosing this bike was the awesome service from both Spez stores in Cape Town/Stellenbosch, and the best investment I have made in years.
  19. Anyone wants to sell their CE jacket? No matter what size

  21. OK, lets try again This bike still has the 7X gears. Thinking about going for 2x10, and see there is some for sale on the Hub with the cassettes. Question now is will the cassette fit on the old 7x space, and then I suppose I would need to change the shifters as well? Already talking to someone about the 2x10 crankset, so that seems to be sorted for now at least. Any guidance will be much appreciated!
  22. Hi all, I have a 15 year old Trek 800 Trail that I have decided to rebuild. Still in good condition, so I just started by replacing the saddle, with handlebars next in line, and should be done by tomorrow evening. Going on, what do I do with gears, 26" wheels and all the other bits and pieces to get this old timer a bit more of a modern look and ride? Many thanks!
