Tankwa Trek 2016

Done it twice now, first time in 2014 when there was around 200 entries and the temperature never dipped below 40 C for the 3 days and then this weekend again with I think almost triple the field (stand to be corrected on this).

In 2014 peeps started leaving after finishing the first day! I will happily admit it taught me a big lesson, but I loved every minute of it. Entered again this year and was flippin nervous after my 2014 experience. There are still no no easy kays, and it does make a few other races look rather tame. The rock riding is phenomenal, the sand can be tormenting and the district road either give you a slight break to recover a tiny bit or loose teeth from all the corrugations..

Once again all expectations were exceeded this weekend, with regards to the route, catering, facilities, etc. Dryland, Kaleo and the Du Toits have the best mtb race in SA in my opinion.

A lot of riders alos use it as a training ride for Epic, and even Mr Vermaak took part this weekend. Looking at the route for the Epic this year, it looks like some of the route for Tankwa Day 1 will feature in Epic Day2 perhaps...

Catering for the family is also great, and the vibe is fantastic with kids running around on the Saturday.

In short, this is one of the few races I'd try and do again and again...

In true Hub tradition, I just realised I do have a complaint! In 2014 we got really cool handmade roadie bicycles for finishing, this year we got a medal..
