I want to buy a new crank for my fat bike.

My current crank is a 170mm will a 175mm crank work better or not.

I am  also considering changing to 1x later on .

What will be the pro's and con's changing to 1x and also a longer crank arm.

Yo man, did you manage to get a new crank? cause I am looking to swop my Shimano XT 175mm to a 170mm, so depending on what crank you currently have, we can talk.

Measure between your pedal and the ground with the crank arms at 90deg to the ground, and if you feel that you can afford to lose 5mm of clearance then go for it. IMHO, a longer crank will give you more torque (which you have to generate!) so again you have to make that decision.

Whatever you do, just make sure that you get a fat-bike specific crank, or one that will allow the crank arms to clear the chain stays. My XT crank wouldn't clear on the Rapid FatCat. Trying to find a crank that would clear the chainstays and with interchangeable chainrings was impossible for me, so I sold the bike and got something which was "upgrade-ready", so to speak.

I now have a Titan Whopper Race, and that comes with a FSA fatbike crank. I'll get the model numbers and measure the crank length tonight, and let you know.
