Starting out, need advice on what offroad bike to get

OP - Get yourself a second hand slightly above entry level HT to start off. You should manage to fit the basics - bike, helmet, gloves and tights - into your R 10k budget. 

 

No, I lie. You'll go over budget. It's the nature of the beast.

 

Use said entry level bike to get fit and figure out what kind of riding you like. Ride with as many different people as you can - don't just do one kind of riding because it's what one guy told you was a good idea.

 

Once you've figured out where you want to be you'll be able to sell the starter bike for not much less than you paid for it. Or just keep it and start a collection like the rest of us.

Thanks a Million Everyone!!! Lots of info on things I really disnt know I would need. Especially thankfull for the advice on the padded shorts, family Jewels are extremely important to me :-) .

 

If you guys happen to see a bike that may fit the discription for my needs, could you please post a link here. Im really dont know the lingo and do t want a Salesman taking me for a Ride ( in sales myself and no pun intended ).
