If you fly Emirates they give you a 30kg total baggage weight, so no extra on that flight but once you in Europe and you need to travel on their local airlines like Vuelling for example they do charge but the cost is cheap.

In powder form, when you're in France just add water or French bubbly if you want to go really fast.

Emirates charge $175 per bike box.

 

For tickets issued on or after 15th November 2014

Total dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 150cm (59 inches). Customers with individual items exceeding above dimensions up to 300cm (118 inches) will be charged an additional fee. Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 300cm (118 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage, and must be sent as cargo or freight.

@Lancesball. Also going Emirates. Now allowed 2x23kg. Concerned, however that the size of a bike box(length+breadth+width) exceeds 1.5m limit. You seem to have had no problems?

I have personally flown the last 4 years with Emirates and never paid for my bike as that and the bag with clothes is 30kg or under. 

 

Last year I flew with 2 friends who also came in under 30kg and never had any issues. 

 

We fly again this year, with bikes and I have not paid for them and wont either except the local airline when we inside of Europe.
