Robby Rodrigues won WP Champs and SA Champs in his age category (40-44 yrs) this year and has been selected to represent South Africa in the UCI Gran Fondo World Champs in Perth, Australia in September 2016.

I do not know Robby, but I know many of you have cycled with him and I have heard lots of great comments about him - not only of his talent on a bike, but also what a fantastic guy he is off the bike. He is apparently not the type of person who would post here asking for assistance and that is why I am posting this. In order for him to realise his dream he will need to raise about 30K by mid July as he is due to fly over in August.

He is set on winning the race as his daughter lives in Perth and he has promised her he is going to win it.  :)

If you are able to assist in any way, please make a deposit into the bank account listed in this link. http://senhorcabo.com/people/world-champs-fundraising-robby-rodrigues/

Every bit helps so no matter whether you can donate R10 or R100 I'm sure your donation will be greatly appreciated.

Come on people. Let's stand behind our local riders and help those that deserve it. Robby is a mate of mine and I know the dedication and long hours he has put in for him to have achieved what he did this year. I have no doubt he has the form and talent to reach his goal at World Champs. Let's all stand behind Robby and be part of the dream of a world champs win.

Well said Snoek07.

Let us also post some words of encouragement for Robby. Feeling supported helps one get through the tough times while training as well as during a race and I'm sure it will help Robby to know that he has supporters in the run-up to the World Champs.

The problem is that there are many of us in the same boat. I know of a few people who made the grade but immediately dismissed the idea because of the cost.

I have also made the 40 - 44 Cat. for the Perth WC but don't know yet know if I'll be able to afford it.

While I can appreciate that Robby is surely a much better rider than I am, that doesn't mean I am any less deserving of my spot (or the many others who are stuck in this situation).

I think that' a likely the reason for the lack of response: making it about one guy, as well as the question about whether he's an active member of the Hub community? Hubbers always support other Hubbers here. Strangers not so much.

So if this was changed to a general fund raising drive for all the Hubbers who qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo WC, then I'd guess you'll see a lot more support.

Good luck with the fund raising for Robby. I know how hard it is.

Thanks for the support, Tombeej. For sure you are deserving of a spot, and well done for qualifying.

My intention with this post is to try and support a local rider whether it is financial or moral support. I'm not sure if Robby is a Hubber or not as most people don't use their real names, but as an example, if we can support some of our international riders who aren't Hubbers then I'm sure we can support Robby too.

Holding thumbs you get to ride it. Let us know if you do and we can cheer you on too.

Golf days (if done well, by people who know how) often produce very good results.

Maybe a Hub Golf Day (or series of golf days in JHB, CT, DBN) where all proceeds raised are split between Hubbers who have qualified for the Perth World Champs.

First step would be to get a list of people who've qualified.

Next step is to get people willing to organise in each area. My missus and I could do the KZN golf day.

With the right support, sponsorship, prizes, lucky draws on the day, etc., it could bring in quite a bit of money I'm sure.

I'm clueless about organising golf days but more than willing to put in the effort. If you are keen and have the knowledge, let's chat via PM and see what we can come up with. Would be awesome if it worked out and we could send numerous riders over.
