Morning fellow Hubbers,

I am in the process of buying a new 29er, but which size is the question.

My inseam size is 18" and I had a 26er frame with the exact size, but the bike I want now is only in 17" and 19".

Being a HARDTAIL and changing from 26er to 29er, which size would you suggest, please help?

17" would it be too small, or 19" would be a bit of a stretch...???

Also not sure which size would give me the better ride and better handling...my Gutt feel says that the 19" would make a bit more sense in regards to handling, won't bee too cramped in the cockpit space and also not falling over the bars too easy in downhill situations??

Please help with your suggestions? Thank you.

The wheelsize change wouldn't affect your fit one little bit. It's the top tube measurement & reach measurements you need to look at, though generally speaking going a size up from the "old" sizing standards and doing that in conjunction with a shorter stem and wider bars will benefit the overall handling and performance particularly in technical situations as you'd be further behind the front wheel and less prone to those "OTB" moments that you can get with a longer stem.

So ja - generally speaking, go the size up from what you previously had, and then get a shorter stem than the (most likely) tiller-size stem that comes standard on most hardtails.

You have confirmed my GUTT feel   much appreciated, just makes more sense to go for the slightly bigger size...will also decrease the stem length. Thank you.
