How tall are you, and what area of jhb do you stay? Might be useful info if someone maybe has a spare bike you can use for a ride or 2 to decide if you really want to be poor for the rest of your life [emoji1] [emoji1]

Edit to add, there is fantastic value in the second hand market, you might just have to look for a bit longer.

I am 1.93, live in Pretoria East.

I hear you about being poor... Lol.

So xlarge frame then. If you feel like taking a drive on the weekend, I'm in parktown north (rosebank) and I have a spare xlarge bike (specialized Stumpjumper FSR) . If you have a helmet, you more than welcome to come join me for a ride on the spruit, I can take you to meet robodog at the trailhead aswel.

from a fairly new biker, i'd say that once you've decided whether you like this cycling thing or not, then set a budget.  if you're going second hand, you can save some money, but also look at what the spares will cost you.

if you're going to go second hand, check out the classifieds on bikehub.  the comments section on ads and the advertiser ratings can be (mostly) useful.  as with a car, take someone with who knows what they're looking at.

Firstly stay away from large retail stores that sell recreational beachfront bikes, they are an utter waste of money.

I am partial to recreational beachfront bikes and the money I have spent on them wasn't a waste.

I'm sure they more the retro classic type than Dunlop or Totem bikes.
