The tech zones at the Absa Cape Epic are scenes of great drama: shredded tyres, broken rims, snapped spokes, damaged derailleurs and more have been replaced or fixed at these points. Many a rider has been saved from an unfortunate DNF by the helping hands of the mechanics at the tech zones, where they stock spare parts and generally help riders. Besides these zones – located at the water points – riders are not allowed to get any outside assistance other than from fellow riders.
