_Daemon_ Posted October 5, 2006 Share Is there a condensed version? This is basically what it is :I had heard about these alley cat races. They are different from a professional bike races because they are designed to simulate the specific problems that messengers encounter on a regular basis. I had heard of races that involved elevators, jelly doughnuts, stairs, oversized boxes, shots of vodka -- anything these untamed minds could come up with. Alley cats are both demanding and dangerous as most of them involve intense speed and are directed through busy streets, where unsuspecting traffic is, to us, just another obstacle. The Crappy German Posted October 5, 2006 Share hm, ok??????? alleycats are common in all the countries with proper bicyclemessengers (us&can, europe, aus). i've competed in a couple andthink it's hell. cause u lkiterally race through a, in most cases, strange city in the dark. u have to complete certain tasks at chepointsand deliver stuff. you pulse is high, you are high on adrenalin causeyou ride through traffic in the darknes (most cases u don't have lightson you), you have to watch out for the police, jump red lights andcriss cross the city with steps up to the pavement, poles and chainshanging in your way. and then, if you are totally nut you are riding ona track bike with fixed gears and no brake! it only feels cool afterwards at the party :-)
