Look at how some framas are manufactured. The cable stops for the rear brake are on the left. So to make a nice smooth path from the bars to the first cable stop is needs to be on the right. The same for the front. The cable runs alot smoother if it comes from the left.

Then just swap it around if you prefer it that way....

 

I'm right handed and can pull the break much harder with the right hand than with the left. The left hand is dumber and slower than the right hand, so my braking always starts with the rear wheel and then the front....
