As far as I know the 8 speed freewheel body will only take an 8 speed cassette.

If memory serves me correct, the 8 speed has a different lock ring as well and they not easy to get.

I'm sure the Campag boys will have more info.

Sheldon B says no

Campagnolo 8-speed cassettes used a slightly different spline pattern from the current pattern used for 9-and 10-speed systems.

8-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on newer "9-speed" and "10-speed" hubs.

9- and 10-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on 8-speed hubs.

It is theoretically possible to upgrade Campagnolo 8-speed hubs with newer cassette bodies, but in practice the parts don't generally seem to be available

No, it won't, without modifying the sprockets, and you won't get all 10 onto the body.

What you can do, is file the keys on the inside of a 9 or 10s cassette to fit and use the requisite spacers to fit the cassette to the hub but the smallest sprocket can be difficult to do as you need to be very accurate to prevent wear & damage to the cassette body.

It's do-able, we have done it for clients in the past but it is pretty time consuming and accuracy / care are needed.

You'll need to go for a Veloce cassette where all the sprockets are separate (i.e. no "triplets" or "duplex" combined sprockets).

You can fit 8s steel sprockets onto the current 9/10/11 cassette body with a spacer to place the smallset sprocket correctly but you need to be religious about lockring torque (40nm with VE, CE, CHO, RE or SR 9, 10, 11s lockrings or, more suitable if you find one, 50 nm with a Potenza 11s lockring) and we also advise (as we do with any cassette, really) to assemble, lightly lock, then turn each individual sprocket hard clockwise, then fully lock down, to minimise "fretting" of the individual leading edges of the keys against the splines.

Thanks to all, very interesting, looks like I have my work cut out. bought a set of Gipiemme wheels on hub which took my fancy, knowing it was only 8 speed so went in with my eyes open.

Thanks again.
