Hi Everyone

I cant seem to find this information anywhere so please may I ask for some advice.

I need to upgrade my drivetrain and I'm looking at the Shimano XT 785 chainrings but are they compatible with my Shimano SLX M677 cranks?

Alternitively I can purchase the SLX M7000 chain rings but they from a 2x11 system and not to sure if they will work on a 2x10 system.

I should also mention that I will get a shimano Deore 10 speed cassette so just want to make sure everything works together smoothly or are there any other suggestions or products that are compatible with my cranks?

Thanks in advance

When you are upgrading things like chainrings it is best to stick with ones with the same spec.  For example if you have a 3 x 10 crank choose rings that are for 3 X 10 , also same number of bolt holes and bcd (bolt circle diameter) as well as number of teeth.  With Shimano you can then cross use from any of the different groupsets, or other brands.

It is possible to use rings of different speeds and no. teeth but you may pick up other issues.

Hi there,

The only things you need to be compatible with is is you have a 2x 10 stick to that...Not a 2x11 as they will have a different thickness for the chain and more than likely a different pick up from one blade to the other. So stay with 2x10. You can get anything you want, depending on your budget.. Deore, SLX, XT, XTR.. when choosing chainrings make sure they are a working set. 38/26 38/24 The big blade will state what it will work with. Then the best chain to work with this is your 10 speed HG-X but most 10 speed MTB chains will work.

Hope this helps
