Convert my road bike to a hybrid

After some time on a MTB I decided to try a road bike for the longer tar based events. I have a 2nd hand Trek Discovery brand carbon fibre but i just cant get used to it.

With a combination of age and other factors I am just not comfortable on it.

I am contemplating converting it to a hybrid, any ideas of how to go about this?

Flat bars

Disc brakes

3 x 9 Shimano gears

All suggestions welcome :)

Shifters and bar not a problem.  Brakes are.  Nowhere to mount disc callipers.  Also if you keep the rim brakes you will need compatible levers.  The linear pull MTB and dual pivot road callipers have different travel characteristics so you can't just mount a MTB brake/shifter set.

I converted my wife's bike for her. Managed to get some TT brake levers on the Hub and got her new road bar shifters from CRC.

Cable pull re front mechs for Shimano differs between road and MTB.

So you can either go 1x, or you need road specific flat bar shifters.

Or change the crankset and use an mtb front mech.

And then just get some cable pull levers.

Thanks, appreciate the input.

I have seen Cyclocross bikes with carbon forks that accommodate disc calipers. Are they hard to come by / expensive?

Or the wheel size different to a standard road bike?
