Groupset Upgrade help needed

Hi All

 

I would like to upgrade my existing groupset and I can't seem to find anything on the specific topic.

 

I have an Octalink BB and need to know which BB to choose that can replace it.

OK I learned something - apparently you can upgrade either a 68mm or 73mm BB shell with English thread to an external BB. Seems like as long as the threads match you're golden, because you can adjust for different shell widths by using spacers. (The move to external BB cups clearly happened before the bike manufacturers got in their heads that any upgrades should be completely incompatible with whatever was last year's tech)

 

The BB pairs with the crank, so once you've got the right thread (english or italian) the rest should be easy.

 

When faced with this problem before I have gone to my lbs with the frame to buy just a set of BB cups for it (they're inexpensive, and you really want the bearings to be new)
