75 days to go...

Time is running out...due to the setback...i have decided to do what i should have done a loooong time ago...i have an appointment to see someone about nutrition.

Lets see if spending R1000 for someone to tell me what to eat is going to fix what i havent been able to fix since i started cycling.

No surprises...i heard what i expected to hear.

I need to eat more...more frequently...starving yourself doesnt help...with training or weight loss.

A tip for people struggling with weight loss...get someone to write down what you eat in a week...and i mean everything...just hearing yourself mentioning everything you eat will help you realise what you are doing wrong....i know some people use apps etc...i am not an app person so this hour spent talking to a person who know and understands what you need to be consuming was certainly worth the time and money.

One good thing is there is no major overhaul required on what i eat daily...a bit of tweaking to what i am already eating and adding in more frequent eating times...the big changes will be before during and after the training or ride.

now all three things required to achieve the goal are in place.

training

off bike conditioning

nutrition

i now have no excuses...lets hope the recovery is good by Monday...very frustrating.

This bump on the head is becoming very frustrating...took the doctors advice for a change...didnt do any cadence or off bike conditioning this week.

Today i got back on the cadence bike...did a short warm up...then just sat at low tempo...20 min in i started feeling dizzy so i stopped had a break then started again...still wasnt feeling so good...so i stopped again...had another break...then took it easy (low endurance) to finish off an hour...felt fine...got home had a shower then slept for an hour...woke up with a mild headache...just gona take it easy the rest of the day.

Will see how i feel in the morning and decide if i am going to go for a slow easy ride or just take it easy on the cadence bike again...the good thing about the cadence bike when you start feeling dizzy you are clipped in and the bike is supported so you cant fall over ;)

An update...got my eating plan form the dietitian...a few minor changes are required.

The only real change is going to be the before during and after training rides...the rest of the food and amounts is pretty much the same as the weighless diet i have been on and off for the past couple of years.

Cut back on coffee and change to rooibos...i am going to change to green tea instead.

I dont consume alcohol...so no change required.

I dont eat junk food (KFC ...macdonalds etc) ...no change required.

other changes to the list ...i dont drink coke or fizzy drinks...so i am going to rather have energade or something else during training rides...also not a big fan of energy goos...maybe a jam sarmie would work...i will reply to the email and enquire about alternatives.

Good news...back to packing the cooler box for lunch since monday...gona have to get use to eating so much food again...double digits on the scale  this morning  :)

absolutely no cheating...coffee down to 3 cups a day with poison (sweetener) instead of sugar...it is going to take a while to get use to drinking the amount of water required everyday.

i am also going to have to get use to the amount of fuel (food and water) required during rides longer than 90 min...i have got to a point where i only take 750 ml of water out on the ride...no matter how long...if required i top up the water bottle...this is going to be the biggest change.

the short rides are ok...i have a fruit before the ride and breakfast after the ride.

Been quite a challenging week.

eating plan is going well...lunch packed everyday...sticking to the plan 100 % and seeing the results already...absolutely no cheating (not even sugar in the coffee)....drinking a lot more water...not as much as i should.

Recovery has been slow...coffee ride this morning went very well...still not 100% but certainly improving...gona take it easy this weekend and hopefully next week back to normal routine.

excuse me while i pat myself on the back...7 days no cheating...no sugar...even managed to pack food for the weekend and stick to it...weight dropped quickly in the beginning of the week but the 7 day weigh in only shows a 2 kg loss for the week...gona make minor tweeks to the plan this week and see how it goes...not looking to loose large amounts...would rather like see a steady slow drop.

did my stretching routine on the weekend...but didnt ride at all :(

been 2 weeks since the bump on the head...after my ride on friday i thought things were getting better...on sat i did my stretching routine and added a few minutes of skipping...bad bad bad idea...feels like i have gone back 2 weeks...was walking through a parking lot a couple hours later...it felt like i was going to fall over...eventually i just sat down...no more skipping...it seems if i ride at an easy pace with a few short  tempo intervals...no problem...so that is what i am going to do for now.

I am not one to back down from a challenge...unfortunately it seems the bump on the head is worse than i thought and taking longer to recover than expected...looks like the shova is gona be a fun ride this year :(

Time to focus on recovery and try get my weight down as much as possible.

At least there is good news...lunch is being packed everyday...its is now becoming habit...get home from work and first thing prepare lunch for the next day.

still no sugar...no junk.

another big change...not eating the whole fridge and some...learning to eat in moderation...bought biltong...it lasted for 3 meals as per eating plan...normally the packet would be finished by the time i got home.

the result...smaller clothes...tee shirts and pants are getting loose.

i had from size 38 - 44 stacked in top of my cupboard for changes in weight...gave all my big clothes away...but now because i am lighter than i have been in 30 years...my smallest clothes are now getting too loose...looks like i will be shopping soon.

gona stick the plan...no training or cycling until Friday...then start a recovery process and see how it goes...hopefully i can ease back into it.

it seems the weight is now dropping at a steady 200 grams per day...i hope to be at 96 kg by next week...i was hoping to start  recovery rides on friday...but after chatting to the doctor...i might need another week of rest.

what am i eating

oats for breakfast

provita x 3 with peanut butter (snacks)

a small yogurt

lunch 4 slices of brown bread

a salad (some days with a protein)

3 provita (afternoon snack)

meat or chicken and veg for dinner

no cheating...no sugar...no training and no cycling.

at the moment i am eating the same thing everyday...i might be loosing muscle mass but one bonus is i  can literally see the gut get smaller and clothes get looser.

because i cant do any training/cycling at the moment i am going to focus on the weight loss and stick to the eating plan 100 %...next week i will make a few changes and see what happens.

Your meal plan looks good, the only thing I would change is replacing the bread with cracker bread.

i plan to make a few adjustments and mix it up a bit...the same ol same ol everyday is becoming a bit boring (seeing the results is motivating me to stick to the plan)...will do things like introduce cracker bread on alternate days and see how it goes...the eating plan will become a long term plan.

the big thing for me is getting into a habit and not picking up those little extras...getting use to no sugar etc.

Its been 7 days of no training/cycling...this morning i decided to join our club C group for a morning out...did around 60 km...at a nice easy pace...went out and enjoyed myself.

First time doing the whole eating thing as per the dietitians recommendations...had breakfast (oats) before the ride ...made a couple sarmies with jam...for the ride...each time we stopped i ate a portion...it is gona take a while to get use to eating on the bike again...i drank more water today than i normally do...something i will also need to get use to again.
