During our ride today the bike become very noisy.Could not find the problem about 1 km from home the drive train started to slip. In our driveway the freewheel body failed. Did not engage. I removed the freewheel body and found like a broken piece of circlip like wire and 3 pawls. Checked internet for spares and noticed it consists of 3 pawls 3 springs and the circlip wire. My freewheel body did not have the springs.I have an identic second wheelset which is loud when freewheeling. This wheel was always quiet. Is this possible no springs.

It's the springs that push the pawls back into place, which in turn gives it the drive when you pedal forward, without the springs, they would just lay flat and you would have no drive. I have had springs break in the past, and had to replace or get a new Freewheel hub. Another thing that can make one hub quieter than another can be the amount of grease applied.

Hope this helps
