Online stores over charging

Did you really think about that before you posted it?

Online stores are not motivated to out price and close LBS’s. Their business models allow them to be more competitive on price and therefore LBS’s retail revenue streams will decline as a by product of us consumers buying on price.

They can also already set their prices to whatever they want, but they won’t because if their prices are not competitive, in the online space, not even the LBS space, we consumers will simply type in a different URL and buy from the website across the road.

Free market is what sets the websites prices, not the LBS’s.

My rational brain agrees with you ....

Then I SEE what the local on-line store charges ....

Their business must be due to one of two things:

- very aggressive marketing and "apparent specials", OR

- a buying public that sees a "30% discount tag and dont do their homework !!

because they sure as heck AINT cheaper than the other bike shops around !

Fraud. Its awesome :-)

fraud by WHOM ?

the buyer for asking a quote based on a published RRP ?

OR

or by the shop for showing an inflated RRP value ?

Having been caught out by this myself I felt at the time that this practice was closer to fraud than mere false advertising .....

so glad we have various other shops to support.  Feel sorry for the people in remote areas that have to make use of these on-line shops for most of their purchases ... must be frustrating to watch the screen update prices day after day for that day when they actually have a real special ... of their end-of line products ....
