Advice on what bike to buy

Hi All, I went mountain biking for 1st time last week with a friend and LOVED IT! I borrowed a bike but would like to get my own. I have a budget of R9k max - any suggestions on best entry level bike, how’s best to go about it. I’m based in Randpark Ridge, any suggestions on 2nd hand bike shops?

As mentioned by Traveler, Bikebay and Bike Market are two very good second hand bike shops.

 

You are thinking along the right lines wanting to go 2nd hand - alot better value for money, and you should be able to get quite a decent bike at that price point. Another option is to go through the classifieds section on Bike Hub, lots of options there. I would suggest enlisting the help of your friend when checking out bikes as there are lots of technical things to get caught up in, and someone that has been riding for a while will be able to help you navigate all the terms and show you what to look out for.

 

As for the type of bike you should go for - what type of riding are you planning on doing? More endurance, jeep track riding; or single track, trail riding? And how tall are you? Do you have any preference between riding a hardtail or a bike with suspension front and rear?
