What is the best way to repair stone chips on an aluminum frame mtb?

Sand down the edges of the chip with high grit sandpaper, apply closest colour-matching nail varnish on the chip and cover with clear varnish once the coloured layer is dry.

Thanks for the advice, it will be mostly shades of gloss and matte black. Will do the repairs and then apply vps to all critical areas????????

Stupid question, but will a matte clear coat make any color underneath matte? So then I just need black with matte and gloss clear coats?

I would experiment on a surface separate of the frame first. Try colour with matt clear over, mix some matte clear into colour, etc.

See which combination matches up best with original.

My frame is also matt black but the areas I have touched up were small enough on less important areas, so didn't really stress over exact match. Got pretty close with standard gloss though.

Yes - you can experiment with various quantities of flattening agent in the clear coat to get the texture you want - I am assuming you are talking about automotive 2k clear coat here...

You can also get touch up paint pens for automotive use - should be able to get quite close colour wise with those if you find a decent supplier locally
