Hey Patham, thanks for the detailed posts.

Any local info on the North side of Brisbane, I have a good job offer in North Lakes.

Any suburbs up there you know of that we should avoid when looking for rentals etc.

I gather North Lakes is a very popular place to live - its a master-planned community which is meant to be self-contained (shops, housing, offices etc all in one place). However, there are not as many jobs there as compared to houses, so most people living there have to commute to Brissie. That commute is a pain as there are not many roads to choose from and they all feature in the traffic reports.

Hence if you have a job in the North Lakes, thats like hitting the jackpot.

Morayfield and Burpengary, just to the north I heard are pretty rough - and thats from someone who moved from Phalaborwra. Cars and contents stolen I gather, and the locals are rough and tough.

Narangba is meant to be OK, then Caboolture is again OK. Just avoid the places between them. Note all above hearsay from colleagues - I have only every driven through them on the highway.

Well that's good to hear, we did a little look and see of the area (North Lakes) in October, but were only there for a day.

Have most of the low down about South Brisbane and Gold coast, as we have family and friends there and Tamborine mountain.

Any info from colleagues about Redcliff?

Redcliff is pretty cool - been there once to my wife's then colleagues' house, right on the bay. Not wonderful beaches by SA or AU standards, but better than some of the other mud flats around Brisbane. Don't bother surfing or swimming I gather, but having a boat and fishing is the preferred past-time. Don't buy here if you believe in global warming - looks dead flat just above sea level. Check those flood maps on the council sites.

I think the commute by car to Brisbane would be too long for me. It has just been connected to the rail network so maybe a rail commute might be OK.
