Shares in GM endedlast week down just over 17%, the worst weekly performance for the stock since September 2001.

With a market capitalisation of $6.5bn, GM is now worth less than a third of Renault SA, the French carmaker that was spurned when it sought an alliance with GM in 2006.

The leading US carmaker is worth just one-fifteenth of Toyota ($99bn), which overtook GM this year as the global sales leader by volume.

Once seen as a bellwether for the US economy, GM is also in danger of being eclipsed in value by the likes of India's Tata Motors ($4.4bn) and Russia's Avtovaz ($4.6 billion), home of the Lada brand. smiley5.gif smiley5.gif smiley5.gif smiley5.gif

Having lived in the USA for many years owned a Ford and a Chevvy or two, and, on top of that I worked for a massive Ford dealership in Boston (they had nearly two hundred employees) as a driver for the mobile workshop crew whilst I was still a student, I have a small insight into the American love of cars.

Ford and GM cars will NEVER loose their sparkle in the USA, they break down constantly but are dirt cheap to repair, they guzzle fuel but its still cheap compared to international prices, they have a cheap entry level cost, come with everything except a coffee mug and make a ludicrous amount of CO 2 emmissions, but they are probably still the biggest sellers in the US.

............... the problem is the rest of the world dosnt want em, and thats a huge lost market.

No self respecting "blue collar worker" is gonna be seen dead in a little 1300 Corsa bakkie, no Siree Bob, not gonna happen, the American love of muscle cars and big engines is still very strong.

No wonder they have to invade countries for oil every couple of years.

That is currently one of the most hotly discussed topics of all time.  Alot of people say that George W specifically had the trade centres bombed so that he could invade Iraq for their oil.

They currently export 3 million barrels to the US a month.

Ai,Ai, it may be old, but I simply cannot allow myself to even think for one second its true.

I simply cannot believe in my heart that a president of the strongest country in the world, would sacrifice thousands of innocent men, woman and children, destroy communities and ten of thousands of families for access to oil.

No Sir, as a caring, trusting people, we can not allow ourselves to believe such statements for if we do I fear there is no hope, we would have reached the bottom of the abyss and I am not ready for that thought.

Iraq was not involved with the Trade Center, Saddam Hussein persecuted those aligned to Bin Laden  who was situated in Afganistan and from where the Trade Centre bombings were supposely planned.

Rather Georgie invented WMD (Colin Powell's demo at the UN). Georgie forced the UN to pass resolution demanding that Saddam turn over all his WMD, and when he could not he invaded Iraq. Of course no WMD were found.

The reason why politicians doesn't have a problem sending thousands of people to die for a "cause" is that it's not their kids doing the dying. It's kids from lower and to a lesser extent middle income families.

Secondly, months after Bush and his monkeys was in possession of a report saying that Iraq had nothing to do they kept spewing lies to the world.

?If you tell a lie big enough

and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The

lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the

people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the

lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its

powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the

lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the

State.?- Joseph Goebbels
