Spraying a Seatpost

JJDT

Recommended Posts

I do have a seatpost that is 400mm in lentgh and it had a couple scratches and I decided that I want to refurbish it.

Sanded the post down applied two coats of primer and 3 coats of black paint. Used these easy spray cans. The reason for the many coats is to have it somewhat chip resistant as opposed just one coat of paint.

It seems the paint is to thick now as I struggle to get the seatpost back into the frame. Do I need to sand it down again and just apply one coat of paint or to have the seatpost at the correct lentgh and just leave the bottom part clear and just spray the top part?

Yeah, ive done this once on a shoddy looking post. I set it to my desired height, marked it, and painted above. Even with a coat of paint on it, the paint will flake off inside the tube and end up causing issues...

Painting just the required length will mean you can add good layers with clear, without worrying about clearance...
