Hi everyone.

I currently have this bike in my possession, and I am considering purchasing it (it belongs to a friend who inherited it from his dad).

I was just wondering if there are any opinions regarding factors that I should take into account with this bike?

Also curious to get a general sense of what it could be worth?

The bike was last serviced in 2015, after which it was briefly used as a short distance commuter, and then put in storage until now. Still rides like a dream, in my opinion. Brakes and shifters seem to be in great shape and it is quiet. The paint has peeled off in quite a few places revealing the steel underneath. Tiny bits of rust here and there which I think can be cleaned off relatively easily. I think I would keep the paint the way it is.

It has Dura Ace integrated shifters on it at the moment.

Any thoughts, opinions or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Lucas

Thanks @BuffsVintageBikes! My intention would actually be to ride the argus with it in October. I am currently riding a much more modern full carbon Felt F3 which was lent to me by a family friend, but it is a bit too small for me and I also kind of want to ride the argus on my own bike. The Battaglin feels more comfortable to ride and I reckon as long as it is in a safe condition, I could go quite far with it.

These Battaglin frames were all manufactured with Columbus SLX tubing as far as I know. The frame was chromed and then painted in a process known as cromovelato. The paint looks almost chrome like.

The problem with a cromovelato finish is that the paint is easily chipped and cannot be resprayed in South Africa.

I have owned a similar frame and have another Pinarello Montello.

The Dura Ace STI's are later to the age of the frame (1988/89).

In my humble opinion the price for the frame and fork in the condition as this one would be between R4,500 - R5,000. This excludes the components and wheels. The Battaglin is a great frame to ride, enjoy.
