my only other suggestion would be to try go back to square one, unpair them from all devices, redownload the phone app, pair and see if you can do a proper activation, and calibration.

if no luck, Favero customer support is flipping fantastic, and should be able to assist. but then, i am sure you have already gone down that route before asking us rank amateurs :)

Yeah they still haven’t gotten back to me.

I contacted the helpline in app. I got an email saying an expert representative would contact me soon but that was two days ago.

The issue is I’m not in SA and the pedals were imported by the guy I bought them from. So I doubt they’d be able to do anything for me.

I heard of Favero remotely locking pedals that they suspect not being bought through traditional supply chain (i.e. being stolen)...

I got a set of pedals on Vinted and they stopped working last week, after connecting them to the phone App.

I am still waiting to hear from Favero Support....

Oof, that sounds like a likely answer. I must say the thought had crossed my mind that it could be something like that. Things like this are not to be found here hence my jumping at the deal, but this does make me wonder how it ended up here. My lbs was telling me the other day how they are not selling the volumes they used to due to stolen goods being brought in and sold for dirt cheap.

Assuming that's the case, it's understandable—but it feels like the person who bought the pedals is the only one being penalized here. It doesn't seem like anything is being done to go after the seller of the dodgy unit, who gets to keep the money with no consequences.

I bought mine believing they were legit, but if it turns out otherwise, I’ll definitely take it up with the seller.

I’ll also make others aware wherever I can.

What I don’t understand is why Favero isn't being more transparent about this. Publicly reporting these cases could help prevent more buyers from being scammed and would likely encourage people to purchase legitimate units through authorized channels.

I haven’t found any official reports online, but I’ve messaged a couple of people with similar issues. They confirmed that Favero admitted to locking the units and asked for a €500 payment (for a double sensor set) to reactivate them—which also seems questionable.

This is not great.
I felt safe buying from a well know and "trustworthy" guy on the cycling scene here, I paid a market fair price so it didn't seem sketchy, he did however agree that should there be a problem then he will refund me. I was concerned they had died due to sitting for too long but what you are saying here does make a lot of sense.

I actually emailed favero before purchasing the unit to try check with them but they never answered, they have also not replied to my helpline queries to try figure out what is the matter so I am disappointed in them, all after hearing such good things.
And if they are asking 500 euros to reactivate potentially stolen goods then I am seriously unimpressed with the brand. "Oh it may have been stolen, you can't use it, but give us 500 euro and..."

I only shared what I was told, because if this is the case, I feel everyone should be more open...

Hopefully you will hear from them soon, please let us know here!

I will also do the same when I get a response to my request...

I hope this does turn out to be an ugly affair for the OP!

Spelling mistake? Otherwise I am rather curious about why you hope that.

Thanks, I will definitely.

I certainly do not support the trading of stolen goods. I Import everything I need from SA and the US to avoid the possibility. I would love to put a stop to the issue here but it's impossible.

Sorry , left out the word “NOT”

have you reached out to the seller yet btw?

I have, I said should I not come right I wish to return them, I have not received a response on that but have spoken to him about something else so.

After a little over a week and two follow up emails I have gotten a response. They clearly didn’t read my first email because I included every little detail in it. I was then asked for a proof of purchase and where I purchased from. Obviously I had already said it was a purchased second hand.

I also received a response today requesting proof of purchase, to which I replied that the item was purchased through Vinted. Let's see what they say now...
