i want to get into downhill and i want to know if DH bikes come indifferent  sizes or is there just one standard size

Hi there. Welcome to the hub and to downhill!

Downhill bikes do come in different sizes.

XC bikes are usually sized according to the distance, in inches, from the bottom bracket to the seat clamp. The top tube may vary in length with the different sizes. DH bikes, however, are sized according to their length - small, medium, large, etc. The stand-over height rarely changes.

It's important that you try before you buy, if possible. While it may be tempting to go for a Small, thinking that it'll be nice and chuckable, you might make things difficult for yourself and find that you constantly hit your knees on the bars and upper crown, and can't get your weight balanced. The most important thing is that you are stable and can easily shift your weight forwards and backwards. Remember also that each manufacturer will have different standards, and a Small from one could be very different to a Small from another.

I hope that helps. Good luck, and have fun!

I see your in gauteng. Have you checked the DH scene out here? IMO a DH bike is a waste here, rather get a freeriding bike or even a hard hitting all mountain bike. There is just nog enough DH tracks up here.
