Looking for clubs / safe routes in Hilton Pietermaritzburg first week of May

I'll be visiting Hilton in a couple weeks' time on business and need to ride my bike. How safe is it around the area to cycle by yourself, or are there safe routes to follow, or perhaps any clubs going out at 4:30(ish) AM from that area?

I found a few routes from local riders. Would this be okay to do solo?

Perfectly safe on the grace college school  forests , lots of trails , nothing technical and it's free .

I’d avoid the first one personally (no shoulder on roads and not the best areas) but it’s one of the safer areas to ride in SA. 
 

Get out and explore - from Hilton towards Howick and out on the Karkloof Road is stunning. 
 

And as above re around Grace College - park at The Avenues Centre and seek out some singletrack.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. will definitely be seeking out some of your singletrack. Coming with the MTB. Got Sani in a couple weeks' time, so perfect training then, I guess.
