apparently it does go a bit on first come- first serve base' date=' but it depends what distance you've entered. I'm doing the 30km and start in group A.

Now that's a challenge; trying to go past the slow riders off the 42 km while being passed by the fast riders of the 30km...

Nope, not relevant. The 30km goes out in a different direction to the 42 & 66km routes.

Well its been raining on and off in Stellenbosch all afternoon.  I can hardly see the mountains through my office window.  Even if it is clear tomorrow - the race will be one big mud bath.  I'm beginning to reconsider the race.

Does anyone know whether one gets free entry to the wine festival if one enters the race?  And does one actually have to do the race to get the free entry?

If you are a licensed rider you will start in the licensed batch just after the top +-100 guys, then it's just your time on the line up, that puts you in the front or at the back of that group. IF you ride PPA you will not be in these groups and be seeded towards the back, as you are then a recreational cyclist.

Hope that makes sense.
