linnega Posted August 1, 2008 Share I am a woos...but I am loving my 50/34 up front matched with a 11/25 at the back. Haven't run out of gears on the fast flats yet' date=' and the hills are a pleasure.[/quote']Nothing soft about it - why not have the extra range in your gearing. Having a biggest gear of 50-11 / 50-12 is an excellent excuse not to ride upfront on the flats.
Cruzer Posted August 2, 2008 Share shew, Check those compacts come through in the poll!! I think I'm gonna do the change. Tony Impie has 12/25's in stock. I'll try it out tommorow in our club ride (Southern's) I will have 53/39 and 12/25.
Minion Posted August 2, 2008 Share Does it make any sense to have two rear wheels' date=' with 39/53 up front and 11/23 on one and 12/25 on the other for hilly days? I heard that the quality of shifting may suffer[/quote']I voted twice.I recently switched to a 12-25 until I'm back to the fitness levels where I can comfortably climb everything I encounter with an 11-23.I've got no shifting problems whatsoever. It is possible that you could encounter problems with chain length at extreme gears ratios (53-25, 39-11), but you can correct it by adding or removing links or avoid it if you install the chain with both cassettes in mind.Edman2008-08-02 03:20:
Minion Posted August 2, 2008 Share shew' date=' Check those compacts come through in the poll!![/quote']They're not that far ahead. 28 people voted for compact, 25 for some form of standard
Cruzer Posted August 3, 2008 Share Rode the 12/25 today, instead of 11/23. Did 80 k's on mostly flats and to be honest I felt a little out of sorts. My usual gear for cruising at 30kph at 90 cadence wasnt there........ also my shifting was different and I risked messing with my front Deraileur settings last night myself (HKGK) with some success but still my shifting wasnt 100% Maybe I have buyers remourse, I will ride another 2 or 3 times before going back to 11/23 including a trip to the suikerbos rand reserve for some torture. Willehond Posted August 3, 2008 Share To be honest, there is not a lot of difference between a 53/12 and 53/11. I changed over a year ago and NOBODY rides away from me despite the extra tooth. The 25 does however make a big difference on climbs and I prefer that combination to the pains of a 11-23 on climbs. I managed to sprint OK in the league with a 12. To get the best of both though, get two clusters and tools and just swop them before races. Takes less than a minute to do and way cheaper than getting two sets of wheels!!! Willehond Posted August 3, 2008 Share I rode away from you many times........ Only on some of the hills in the beginning, when you actually bothered to turn up at races! Anyway, I am talking about the sprints, where I would have kicked your butt if you actually made it to the sprint! I just had a look at the League table to refresh my memory. I wanted to compare our results, but I couldn't be bothered to go that far down the list to find your nameWillehond2008-08-03 04:52:

Strange you should mention that, because in one of the two races you finished you were beaten by a Strandloper (The Yak). He was two positions ahead of you, so you MUST have been able to see him. Strange how selective the memory can be hey? Glad you are back after the illness though. Time to step up to the plate...
Spaceboy Posted August 3, 2008 Share 11-25 is an awesome cassette. Power from the 11 and easy spinning from the 25. I have Shimano 105 on both my training and racing wheels, and I have gor all i need. I am not sure if this ratio comes in Ultegra or Dura Ace. If you look closer and have time it is about 13min on each race from "us" in the front group in the 2 events.colonel2008-08-03 11:49:
