Garmin 705 for less that R3700

I noticed that  Chain reaction cycles sell the Garmin 705 + heart rate monitor for R3657. Can one get  SA maps for it from the local Garmin people, and how much would it be?

There are "ways" of getting the South African map on a Edge 705 which will cost you at the most R99.00.

The Garmap streetmaps will cost you at least R1000.

 

If you're buying from CRC, go for the 705 with CAD + HR. This puts you over the ?250 free shipping limit. You pay an extra ?26 for the unit, but save ?25 in shipping i.e. a cadence sensor for ?1!

 

Now the bad part:

CRC will charge you in pounds. They display the price in ZAR for our convenience, BUT they are still using R15 = ?1.

Take it up to around R17.5 = ?1 and it goes up by R400 to R4470 for the 705 + Cad + HR.

Now add 15.2% for import VAT and you're paying R5150 just to get it here.

 

So, in the end you pay R6150 for a package that you can get locally for R6200 for Cape Union Mart or R5800 here:
