Brandon Steward won and Kevin Evans was second in the 85km Mondi Addo Mtb race today. Prize for first place was R15 000 and R5 000 for the "King of the Mountain" - which Kevin won. John-Lee finished 5 th - I heard he is actually taking a break  from cycling currently.

Was a great race with lots of everything that you wanted in a race. Best race  we attended this year

They should make it a Drifter next year as they had about 600 entrants - thats probably about 3x as many entrants compared to last weekends Drifter Race in Oudtshoorn.

I got home about 2 hours ago from Addo, raced the 55km challenge which was not easy by any means. Got a 3rd place which came with a cheque of R2000, yay. Wife also did the 55km race and also got 3rd in the ladies. She got R500. Pretty unfair though that the women didn't get equal prizes...

I think what they should do, is to give the same prizes for males and females, but then add  overall prizes for say the first 5 that finished.

Azonic, you did very well! ; GT oke finished 5th in that race behind you.

Yeah it was very tough... My group got away right from the start, 6 of us. Very high pace. Two guys dropped, then one more. But I was stupid, attacked the group a few times to test their legs, but when the move came when position 1 and 2 rode clear, I just-just-just didn't have to vooma to stick with them. On the lower slopes of Zuurberg I was able to maintain my gap behind them, about 20 seconds, with them helping each other out and me being alone in 3rd. On the two hike-a-bikes (if you were tired like me!), 4th place caught and passed me, putting me in 4th. Dropped like a sucker 3rd place was WAY up the road in the distance. 14km from the end I managed to real in, and pass 3rd place rider, putting me back in 3rd. From there I just gave it fat carrots to stay ahead, and managed to till the end. I rate I was pretty lucky though, I finished in 2:39 (not too chuffed, but content with that time), 4th came in 60 seconds behind me, with like another 5 okes finishing less than 2 minutes later. So my 3rd could very well have turned into a 6th or something had I had any mechinical or any problem what so ever. Well done to GT Oke, he then finished no more than 2 minutes behind me, and he would then have been on the prize giving photo with me. I'll try to get it and post it.

Man oh man, what a tough race.  For the first race in year that we did, was this def an eye opener for me. Must admit that the course was really well marked and all the marshals did a great job, etc.   Well done to the okes.  I would just email them with some constructive critism. We slept at the start line, and some people decided to party and the music in the pub was still blaring at 2 in the morning.  So was a bit peefed about that. Other than that.... awesome race.  There is also a poor cacte still wondering what he did in the world, cause i "placed" him somewhere else.  Was still pulling out thorns this evening, and will have to wait for the others in my arm to come out by themselves.   So licking the war wounds a bit.

I was speaking to on of the farmers in the area

he was the lead vehicle (if you can call it that) on a motorcycle and was telling me he was doing 60km/h on one section and couldnt go quicker and had to pull over to let the bicycle past
