Hey GO and ShawnA. Long time dudes.

You been hinernating like the bears do. I tell you those creatures are smart man. Last weekend was not lekker weather. So between work pressure and bad weather, it has been a very lean week for cycling.

My lowest weekly distance for 24 weeks. Week before was just slightly more and I mean slightly and that was the lowest for 11 weeks.

What I did notice though is that darkness is decending later. Got home at around 6 pm after a very good 36 k ride and I could still see.  So longer rides during the week are happening again.

Shawn, during your absence, there have been a lot of bike jackings on the steps. Please be warned, they are going after anyone who is dropped by the bunches and sitting at the back alone. Do NOT ride there alone.

Weekend before this past one, they jacked my mate Garry where the railway line crossed over the steps. Took his RC3000 off him.

Please dudes, be careful out there. They may move to other areas so it is vital that we ride in groups for our own safety.

My plan for saturday is to get a group together and do a short loop. Meet at Rietvlei and leave around 8. Will get back to you regarding numbers tomorrow.

Kid, you and your kid in for Saturdaymorning or are you playing soccer fan again?

Well, Trubes, I have been making some tentative arrnagements to do the short loop, but, I need to do hills and distance.

How about we get as many people together, go up Voortrekker, Silver ball, through Linmeyer, Do columbine and then go down the Lido hill, and back up along Rifle range and then down butchers and home. Should be about 60 to 70 k's and we can map all those hills. Smallish group of say about 6 of us. Teeny will run chicken, his buddy will never be able to do that and I think my neighbour (Garry) will prpably bail on that plan too.

ShawnA, you want in on this one. Maybe Kid's kid will join us too.

At this stage II have no fixed plans as I am still finalising the whole deal. Maybe kick off at an hour when the temp is above freezing. We ca meet at your place and then pick up ShawnA en route.

Yeah well..you guys had a week...I had 3' date=' looks like the lost city will be tough...[/quote']

You guys wil weep when you read this , so get the tissues out:

2009, 31 (as this is week 32 we are in now) week ave  - 165 k's

First 21 weeks ave - 203 km

Last 10 weeks ave - 86 km

Last 6 weeks ave - 75 km

Last 3 weeks ave - 63 km

Please think of me on monday during the Carousel, I am really sh@tting bricks at this stage about the prospect - because maybe deep down I know I'm not 40% ready for it.

Now who's the biggest poefter around?

Funny thing is Trubes, I was looking at my cycling log last night as well and I have a very similar pattern. Big milage early in the year and the last two months, weekly distance has dropped off dramatically.

Maybe that'swhy I feel the same way you do, only about different races. You worried about the Carosel, with me it TDS.

So, are you resting on Saturday or we going to go do some hill work. I think you need to go flat and fast. I need hills and distance.

If it wasn't so sad I would have been able to chuckle about the whole issue, but what is more devastating is that I did 60k's less in July this year, than in 08, but I managedsmiley9.gif to do more than the July 07 total of 20k's!!

I am willing to do the route as proposed from 8:00, but only down Lido hill, then home down Swartkoppies/short loop, depending on the distance.

From bottom Lido home is about 14k's, from there short loop, would prob be about another 30k's. At least we will be able to go up the steps in one slow group.

Are you propsing that we do the loop (short) instead of going back up the lido hill? We could do that but then we absolutely have to stick in a group along the entire section especially up the steps. I'm in if there are more than two of us. (Say three or four.) Reason I say this is that three okes attacked my neighbour. He was chasing a bunch of two ahead of himelfup the steps. No it could be that they saw him alone and chose a path of lesser resitance or they are too chicken to try more than one, but I would be worried about those odds.

Last time I did the steps was when I did my 100 k ride on 12 July.

ShawnA, you in on this one buddy. Recoverd enough from your ills to attempt this route. Oxman, what say you.

I only propose that once down Lido, not to go up again, and down and up Butchers - if that makes sense? - rather go straight down Lido, past hotel. left at the robot and onto Alewynspoort

'K, so we go up Voortrekker, Sliverball, Rifle Range, onto Columbine to Southgate, down Lido and then do Allewynspoort loop up steps and home?

Cool. Done deal. You can drop my as anywhere you like but will have to wait for me to catch up at bottomof Lido Hill so we can do Allewynspoort together.

Along Allewynspoort we can try to keep the speed to steady 38 with one minute changeovers asto who leads the pack. Should make us nice and tiredfor our final assualt up the steps.

You keep on forgetting that I am riding Carousel 110 on monday, so sat would just be nice easy tempo riding.

Ave HR of no more than 140 (75%) or even lower

Cool, that works for me, So lotsa hills, relaxed pace and then a bit of flat fast stuff to have a well balanced ride.

I'll meet you at your place.

Dunno about the route... not comfortable to do 66km on the bike 2 days before a race, especially with all the running on the days before and after... Not willing to sacrifice the running on Thursday or Sunday for a longish bike ride on Saturday.

40km sounds more like what I should do, or maybe I should take the MTB to Northern Farm rather...

Enjoy!
