Maybe he realised the '2love' is a misnomer... it should have been Slave2Cycling smiley4.gif But to keep 2love happy, he just changed it to Slave?

Seeing as the planned and much talked about ride on Kids wheels isnt going to happen this morning, because its rainingsmiley7.gif.

So I thought , well maybe give an update on the Emerald Winter CC which happened in Vdbijlpark yesterday.

It was flippin cold to start of with, I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout (both MTN and Garmin had their racing teams their), and it was a special day, for it was the first race for the missus - on her own nogal. (Ok I know 10 k's prob doesnt justify to be called a race, but she is a beginner - so go soft on her please)

Those of you who know the Stonehaven races, will know, its always tough because of relatively small bunches, and lots of wind, and the routes are somewhat undulatingsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gif, although some might have the impression that its rather flat. Those Shimano specs I wear , show me a diff picture - but lets leave that there.

I have participated in 9(incl yesterday) races this year (when is the day gonna come when I can say I have raced in x races this year????)

In 5 of these events have I managed to finish with an ave HR of 80%+ of my max which is 186.

On two occasions have I finished with a 153 (82,70 % of max), now that is hard, b@lls to the walls stuff, which forces you to somehow pop your eyeballs back, pick up your lungs from the handlebars, and beg, borrow and steal legs from whoever you manage to see next to the road.

Yesterday , I ave 156 or 84.32% of that max over the 80 k's, in 2:09, at an ave of 36.5, which my dear friends is the hardest I have ridden this entire year, and many before this one.smiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gif

So Ox, its seems all that plodding along, raking up the miles, is starting to pay dividends. I am so looking forward to the Bela Bela.

As for missus Nuwbie - she completed her race in sub 20min, so proud of her...

Well done there Nuwbie. 84% max is really pushing it.

I hear you about the miles of riding. I'll have to substitute that with some smart IDT training (got my Elite InOut yesterday) so hopefully I can get on the bike more regulary than once or twice every second weekend!

When is mrs Nuwbie going to join us for a slower/ish 40km short loop?

Thanks Ox

It was workers day afterall, had to put in some "work" there yes. Just checked, last 2, 80k's, was 2:28, 2:18, so ya miles and miles of fun.smiley2.gifsmiley2.gif

IDT will def assist, just make sure you have something to listen to, or watch, cause those hours seem to be an eternity if you ride indoors.

Eish, the missus will need a lot more encouragement before she will join a bunch ride. First off all we need to get her past the 20 k mark, then get her confidence up so she will appear in cycling kit on a bunch ride, then we need to start working on bunch skills, and then get her faster, so she can stay in the slower bunch. As you can see a magnanimous task, so sometime soon, sometime soon.

Seems like I'm going to have an easier task smiley2.gif

It appears as if I'm going to introduce somebody to the 40km social bunch next weekend

these ARE my tactics:

1) Buy a fast looking bike

2) Think about training

3) Don't forget rest is equally important

4) Rest

5) think about training again

6) Rest

7) polish and admire fast looking bike

8) Rest

9) Feel guilty about not training

10) buy a cycling magazine

11) read article on how to lose 10kg in 2 days, gain 10km/hr and do a sub3 Argus

12) Rest

11) repeat steps 1-12 smiley4.gif (but add wheels/KCNC bling etc instead of "bike" purchase)

Wonder if I will last 10km's with you guys. Seems like you all race the living daylights out of everybody.I would be wary to join your rides.

That's what they all say when they consider riding with us, then they pitch, drop us in their dust after 5 k's , and we are left to lick our wounds for next couple weeks till someone new joins again, and so it goes on and on and on.

Why do you think I haven't joined one of the famous rides yet Onetime - I'm too scared!! I was too petrified to even join BMC Fan's WC hub rides' date=' now this one looks even worse!!![img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley11.gif[/img]

Let me not forget to add that we then come to the hub after the ride , and talk a mean talk, while we know our ego's are in tatters and our reputations are blown away - till the next time, we do it all over again. Suckers - ain't we?smiley19.gif

Damn now the other tactic of sowing constant confusion is also getting to me - First Slave2love loses his will "2love" and now "nuwbie" becomes "Trubie" - I think it's time to change "racman" to "BlobOnaBike" !!smiley18.gif

Nuwbie = new dude on the block (hub)

Trubie = according to my hub dictionary - someone constantly bickering' date=' causing trouble, and acting like a smartass, ie Troublemaker[img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley17.gif[/img]

This is what happens when you talk so much crap, you have to start hiding from yr fellow hubbers under diff names.

Slave is the leader of the pack, so naturally I had to follow suit.
