ok I'm past the point where I have a burning desire to get a pair of tubbies,,,

but now i have a question...

one of the things I love most about doing a race is the sound of all the wheels going at 40+ km/h

and disagree with me if you want but a decent set of tubbies makes a nice "noise"!! Thumbs%20Up

but now, a couple of times some guys (with tubbies) comes sprinting past me in the bunch or is just out of his saddle attacking or countering whatever...

and it sounds like his wheels are about to fall off!!?? or the bearings are gonna come flying at my face anytime soon...

why is this??

is it "normal" for some tubbies (cheaper ones) to do this?

or are these guys just risking their lives whenever the put their "smart, hardly been used racing wheels" on??

Tubbies themselves don't make a noise - apart from that lovely

"swishing" noise they make on the road, or the bang as they

gloriously explode...

The usual cause of the "bearing", clunking noise is usually the

valve extensions banging on deep section rims. It's no problem,

apart from the clunking noise and is easily solved by popping a

little glue into the hole where the valve comes out. I use a

rubber glue, so it's easy to get off...

THis is common especially for Zipps and mavic cosmic carbons because the valve hole is slightly wider than other wheels i use a toothpick covered in insulation tape to sort this problem out and is less messy than Jmac's idea although it is a good alternative when toothpicks are scarce smiley1.gif
