Nice "entry-mid" level XC air shock. Nothing special, but works well at a reasonable price. It's relatively light, has rebound adjust and obviously air spring. What is this special price? Seen for in Centurion for R3.5k.

I bought a Recon Race off the hub a few months ago and am very happy with it. It is extremely light at around 1.8kilos odd as it is a pure air shock. They can be set up pretty plush and although they lack all the bells and whistles of the Rebas, most riders dont need the extra features anyway.

There is a good review here :

What are you upgrading from? You also might want to make sure it comes with the remote lockout, especially if you are a heavier rider, but I took mine off because I never used it and it cluttered up my handlebars.

R2.5k is a good price, as they are almost R5k for the 2009 models now.

edit: I also forgot to mention that according to my lbs, Rock Shox provide good after sales service and parts are easy to get, so maintenance shouldn't be a problem. Their head office is here in Cape Town.

I've had one for little more than a year now, and even though I *know* I should replace seals and oil, it's still running perfectly (with a little stanchion lubing required here and there).

Not too heavy, low maintenance, dampening is very consistent, and with lock-out it's an awesome overall-bang-for-buck package.

Sounds like a good pice!

I find a bit of chain-lube / silicone spray on the stanchions before or after each ride definitely keeps the shock plush and stops the dust penetrating the seals.
