Casette compatibility help

I need some help .

 

I have ultegra 9 speed Crank,RD, FD, brakes and sti but I think my casette and chain are not ultegra. My casette has CS-HG 50 90 printed on it and my chain has hg-73 or something liKe that. Can I use the new ultegra or 105 10 speed casette AND chain with the current equipment

 No! If you only have 9 speed STI whats the use? You will have to upgrade all your parts to 10 speed.

Ok heres the deal i have purchased a trek 1400 SLR 58 cm bike with a carbon fork. has all ultegra 9 speed stuff accept for the casette amd chain. Bontrager seat and rims + sigma computer. Cassette is i think tiagra abd chain is definitely 105,

I have purchased it for R4000 and need to know if it is worth it. I have no idea how old the ultegra groupset is ???

How do i find out what year model the ultegra is and secondly is it worth the price ??

different models in the same speed range works together 100%. You can not use 10spd on lower or visa versa.

 

 

 

BTW, there is nothing wrong with 9spd stuff. They only look different in some cases.

You are confusing me by mixing up groupset levels and speeds. All 10-speed stuff is compatible with all 10-speed groups. 105 works with Ultegra and vice versa and etc etc.

 

You want to know how old the equipment is? The component code will give you a clue, perhaps someone here has more accurate information. On the front hub for instance, you'll find a code HB-6600. The first 6 in this case refers to Ultegra (Dura Ace is 7 and 105 is 5) and the second range of numbers refer to the model version number and some variants in the product such as colour, OEM etc. I think 7700 would be the latest Dura Ace code. So, if your Ultegra stuff is 66XX, it is reasonably new and if it is 62XX it is oldish. How old or new I don't know.

 

What I do know is that the carbon fork and Bontrager saddle is compatible with all speeds.
