I purchased a giant cyclotron mag indoor trainer. I have absolutely no problems with the unit...works perfectly, however I'm getting quiet a hectic silver deposit on my rear tyre from the roller cylinder, and the ccyclinder is obviously losing the silver and a clear mark is being left. Is this normal? Is there something I'm missing or not doing? Do my tyres need to be hard, as they're getting pretty flat? Any response will be greatly appreciated.Confused

You should be using a special Training tyre on the rear. Normal tyres get destroyed by trainers, due to the heat generation.

So basically it means buying one of these trainer tyres, removing your normal tyre and all will be as good as it can be.

Ok lol, that makes sense. That'll be a hell of a mission tho. Changing tyres between indoor training rides and outdoor rides, almost warrants buying another rim to slap the whole thing on. I bought it 2nd hand, but the guy who used it before didn't have a special tyre, and there was no marks on the cylinder from the silver being removed, so I assumed that it would be fine. He did mention that u get special tyres for it, but I didnt realise they were a necessity. Do u get hybrid tyres? for both indoor training and outdoor? Could imagine they wouldnt be very efficient on the road tho.

Thanks for the replies

Forget the training tyre

Use a old tyre that's laying around or a dirt cheap new one - will probably last a season or 2.

They do become squere after some time, but who cares

Better than the training tyre cause you can then just leave it on your training wheel for outdoor rides rather than having to buy a dedicated rear wheel with a special/ expensive training tyre on (or change tyres every time you want to hit the road)
