Hey

Confused again. How do I know what speed my MTB is ? New XT groupo - is it calculated according to the amount of rings on you casset ?

Road is 10spd I know that - but cant remember now.

Plz help - need to fill in some form for insurance. Think the mtb is 9spd, for some reason - 9 back 3front - 27speed ???? ---- WTF ?

Gears are calculated according to the amount of sprockets on the cassette.

The manufacturers of cheaper bikes count the amount of combinations available by changing between the front blades and sprockets. Thereby advertising 21, 24 or 27 speed. It's just a marketing gimmick to sell their product.

I have a 10spd or if I want to sound fancy I say 20spd. But what really matters is the gear ratio. It's no use trying to do a hilly race with steep climbs if your ratio is not correctDead
