Bearing Prices Up Again

Bearing prices are going up at the end of this month. In two weeks time, another 30% will have been slapped on the existing inflated prices.

 

Since January last year to April this year, the prices went up three times, making them 87% more expensive. That's before this month's increase.

 

A simple 6000 series bearing will now cost about R110-00. A bearing overhaul on a Mavic or similar wheel with four bearings will set you back R440 for bearings alone.

 

Those of you with full suspension bikes full of ball bearings, give them back to Stannic so they can park them next to the Hummers and Range Rovers in that big yard of theirs in the dessert somewhere.

 

I expect Shimano bearings to go up as well, since they're sourced from the same Big-5 suppliers in Japan, Germany and Sweden. Shimano bearing overhauls will soon cost a whopping R30 per wheel.
