Does anyone use the speedplay pedals for road bikes? Just wondering what they are like and if they are worth their price tag... Are there any advantages/disadvantages over a normal pedal? I haven't seen too many of them around...

Biggest advantage:

Free rotational float. (can be limited or locked in place, but then you might as well use other pedals. This is a fantastic feature for me, as I pedal with my heels in.

Secondary benefits:

Double sided entry - a real breeze to clip in

Clip mecanism immune to acidental release - does not get affected by cleat wear

Lots of cornering clearence

Disadvantages/dislikes:

cleats are expensive

cleats wear fast if walked on (easily avoided with cleat covers)

Get the Zero's.

promise you, you'll never ride the other crap again.

as for cleat wear, you will replace 3 pairs of shimano or look cleats before you replace the Speedplays metal cleat.

if you have the bux, buy them. others that cant will always give you the negatives.
